Video recordings from 2012

We're pleased to announce that both of our opening keynote talks from this year's conference are now available to watch online. Just head to the PHP UK Conference 2012 playlist on our YouTube channel, or watch them embedded directly here on our site on the keynotes page. The recordings are available in various resolutions going from 240p all the way up to 1080p, and on mobile devices too.

With these two keynote sessions now available, our video production company is now starting work on the main talk sessions, starting with Friday morning in the auditorium. They expect to upload one or two talks every day going forward. If you have or create a YouTube account, you can subscribe to our channel, like our videos and playlists, and more.

Friday Tickets Now Sold Out (and two day tickets too)

We are very happy to announce that after many months of preperation and hard-work Friday and therefore Two Day Tickets are now SOLD OUT. If you missed the chance to attend this year, don't worry - full presentation videos will be made available after the conference is over.

Saturday tickets are still on sale though and you can register now for a Saturday ticket at £140 here. We also have a number of the most popular Friday talks repeated on Saturday as well as the Unconference track where many of of Speakers may also be giving a short talk.

With the biggest PHP UK Conference yet just three weeks away, we have now announced our provisional schedule, which lets you know which talks by which speakers are on which day(s) at which time(s).

Closing Keynote Panels and Unconference

For the 7th annual PHPUK conference, we have not only expanded the event to two full days, but we are also expanding the line-up. Along with our two inspirational keynotes and 25 unique talks, we will be closing each day with a panel of speakers discussing some hotly contended topics.

First up closing Fridays sessions will be a panel on 'PHP at Scale', with Rasmus Lerdorf - creator of PHP, Hugh Williams - VP of of Experience, Search and Platforms at eBay and Nikolay Bachiyski - developer at WordPress. The panel will be lead by Ian Barber development manager at Virgin Management who lead the direction of all Virgin companies. They will be discussing using PHP in high volume environments, the choices people made and why the made them.

Saturday will be brought to close with what promises to be a exciting debate on 'SQL vs NoSQL'. The panel will be lead by Helgi Thorbjoernsson from Orchestra who is also a board member of PEAR. He will be joined by Johannes Schlüter from MySQL, Derick Rethans from 10Gen/MongoDB and Dave Stokes from Oracle.

This year for the first time, an unconference will run alongside all the main talk sessions (not the keynotes, panels or closing address). It will offer 15 or 20 minute slots where any attendee of the conference is free to give a talk or workshop on any PHP/web-related subject of their choice. The unconference track is sponsored by Engine Yard / Orchestra.

2012 Keynote Speakers

We are delighted to announce two exciting keynote speakers for this year's conference.

Our first keynote will be delivered by Rasmus Lerdorf on Friday morning. Rasmus is best known for having gotten the PHP project off the ground in 1995. He then went on to be infrastructure architect at Yahoo! for more than 7 years and most recently has been advising start-ups including WePay, Etsy, and Room77.

Rasmus will give insight on PHP as he sees it in 2012 - from PHP's humble beginnings as the Personal Homepage project up to what is new in PHP 5.4 and beyond.

Hugh Williams will open Saturday's sessions with his keynote address. Hugh is the Vice President of Experience, Search and Platforms at eBay. He previously managed a large R&D team at Microsoft’s Bing, and prior to that was a tenured professor in Australia. He has published over 100 works, mostly in the field of Information Retrieval, and two books: “Web Database Applications with PHP and MySQL” and “Learning Mysql” for O’Reilly Media Inc.

Hugh will lead us on a tour of key platforms used at eBay - from their Hadoop platform and data stores, to how PHP is used at eBay. Finally, he will give us some exciting insight to what cool things are coming up at eBay in 2012.
